Are The Cleveland Cavs Cursed?

The headline on Si's most recent cover was "Cleveland Rocks"(No Joke!) The line provided a boost for SI for the pure fact that the Cleveland Cavaliers did rock. During the regular season the Cavaliers were the team to beat in the east with a 66-16 record, and the success didn't stop there, the Cavaliers swept both the Atlanta Hawks and The Detroit Pistons 4-0 in the first two rounds of the playoffs. Since "the glory days" the Cavs have fallen to Orlando Magic and were eliminate 4-2 in the Eastern Conferance championship. When, the Cavs made the Cover of SI did they become the next victims of the SI curse?

Cleveland is not the first team in the history of sports to be "cursed" by SI. From 1950-2001 84 athletes or teams have appeared on the cover of Sports Illustrated and suffered the dreaded "curse" less then a week later. Does this point to a curse? Should athletes decline an invitation to be on the cover? Since 1950 Sports Illustrated has been publishing an issue every week. Since that time to the year 2000 only 84 covers have been cursed. "The jinx, I believe, is more for the fans to have something to think about than anything else"
( Shannon Brown Mountinaeer Word Press)If the fans have this to hold on to then maybe the curse is real. Forgive me when I say this, the fans are the curse. This is not to say that athlete's playing bad doesn't matter. If a fan believes something, and then is discouraged, the popular belief spreads, often lowering team moral. For example the Chicago Cubs fans believe in the Billy Goat Curse. The story goes like this. Billy Sianis had decided to attend a game in the 1918 MLB season. He brought his goat to the game. He was later asked to leave the game because the odor of his goat was unnerving to many of the fans. At this Billy was outraged and exclaimed " Them Cubs they ain't gonna win no more!". The quote went down in history, and every time the Cubs don't make the World series the fans always say "That damn Curse!". Now think about it, if the fans stopped believing in the curse don't you think the Cubs wouldn't have that to use as an excuse? "Oh, Sorry, we can't win, we're cursed"

So, what happened to the Cavaliers? The team does not score, and things are not looking up. Without Lebron the team averages 61.9 points per game. They need James to pick up the slack, they hope Lebron can carry them to a title. Lebron James is scoring more points then the rest of the Cavaliers team. While James Carries the team with an average of 42.8 points per game and a shot percentage of 50 percent from the floor, other stars such as Mo Williams average 17.8 points per game while shooting 22 percent from the floor. In fact Lebron James scored 61 percent of his teams points per game during the conference championship series, that's a whole lot of pressure. So, is Cleveland Cursed? Yes, in a way they are. The fans have shown they believe it with comments like "please don't put us on the Si cover." The players(Except for Lebron) believe it, rolling over like dead dogs."When a team around a star player doesn't score, there is only so much a star player like James can do!"(Alex Amerling LBCC Freshman) Can this "curse" or stigma be lifted, yes it can, but in order for that to happen, the Cavs as a team, need to score. Or, you could just move the Cavs to Cincinnati, if they win a Championship there, Cleveland's Cursed.

My new iPod touch

The IPod Dilemma And The New Ipod Touch G3

About 2 weeks ago I was able to procure tickets to the Oregon State Beavers basketball game against The University Of Houston. After the Beavers won the basketball game by three points my buddy and I headed to another buddy's dorm room. For anyone with an Ipod or valuable possession this is a heads up don't leave the said possession in the dorm room period it can and most likely will be stolen. Needless to say this happened to. But all is well because i got the Ipod Touch!!!!! The Ipod touch does everything that the classic does and more, this amazing little tool has wireless internet, 3d games with tilt control, and many other applications including were you parked your car locater. This is a cool little tool the only downside is that the cost is 300.00 dollars! Aside from the price the ipod touch is a great investment. Just dont leave it in a dorm room if you dont want to lose it.

The Best Button I have Ever Seen

Just a couple minutes ago my friends and i were talking about the Clinton's. One of the topics that came up was Bill's affair with Monica Lewinsky. Sometime later my buddy inquired that i search up a picture of Monica so he could actually see her for once. I came upon a great button on the Google search out of the thousands of pictures that came up during the inquiry.

Ken Griffey Jr. returns to Seattle(Revised)

A Hall of Famer, a role model, a hero, and one of the few to be drug free. Ken Griffey Jr. has come home. The Hall of Famer who began his career with the Seattle Mariners in 1989 has returned to his Seattle on a one year deal worth about 2 Million. So what's the big deal? Why is there so much hype about Jr. returning? The reason is that Seattle fans fell in love with Griffey while he was a Mariner, we couldn't help it! During his first tour of duty with the Mariners Griffey batted an average of 3.02, while averaging 32 home runs a season. The fact is, Ken Griffey Jr. is one of the greatest players in the history of the Mariners Organization.

So what makes him one of the greatest, what puts him in the same boat as Edgar Martinez, Randy Johnson, Tino Martinez, and Jay Buner. All these players had one thing in common that made them great, and only one word is needed to describe it, Character. “Griffey had an amazing attitude here in Seattle, I can’t tell you how many times I would see kids chasing him up and down the field asking for an autograph and instead of saying he didn’t have time to sign autographs he stopped what he was doing for the kids” says Betty Starr. I never fully realized what my Aunt Betty was talking about when she said that, until she sent me some pictures of Griffey at spring training for this upcoming season. In the short excepts she sent me I could see that he did care for the fans and teammates. “Were happy to have an Icon like Griffey back in the Organization” said Mariners Chairman John Ellis.

When I was young I watched Griffey light up the scoreboard make dazzling catches and steal bases like no other. This man became my idol at the crisp age of 20. His determination, love for the fans, and positive attitude inspired me. I remember watching the games on TV. With my dad and the only player I recognized was Jr. When I was about 10 my dad took to a Mariners game in Seattle at the brand new Safeco field. The air was crisp and the Baltimore Orioles were in town at the time. As the game drew on the Mariners continued to flub it up with bad play and mediocre hitting and in the 7th inning the Orioles had a 4-0 lead over the Mariners. Griffey stepped to plate set himself in the box and waited for the pitch. When the ball left the pitchers hand Griffey was ready. With such poise and a supple movement of his hips Griffey put some serious G- Force into that baseball hit the bat. The ball left Safeco Field! Well just like that the Mariners kicked butt; Jay buner hit a homerun, and then later in the ninth Alex Rodriguez belted a game winning grand slam. A memorable comeback sparked by Ken Griffey Jr.

For Mariners fans this may be the greatest season in 8 years even if Seattle doesn't live up to their expectations. Seattle and idol is back in town. WELCOME BACK GRIFFEY!

Castle Crashers Review

Do you remember the days of Atari, Nes, even Super Nes? When Mario walked across a 2D landscape and his game didn’t come at a $60 price tag, I do! Alas those days and games are gone, 2D innovation is gone forever lost in a purely 3D age. Not anymore, a brand new developer by them name of the Behemoth brings you Castle Crashers, a cartoon knights adventure with its own twists and curves.
I just happened to be flipping through the demos on the Xbox live marketplace the other day when I happened to see the name Castle Crashers. (Free Demo) Immediately I had to see what had been put together, what it was all about. When I was finished with the demo I immediately purchased the game. Why? You ask. To put it simply the game kicks ass! With 3 different modes of play, a co-op campaign, and the ability to battle other gamers online in the arena for glory is awesome! Not only are the game play options great the game has a great soundtrack, and the graphic visuals are superb. Not only that the game comes out to about about an 8 dollar purchase at 1,200 Microsoft gamer points.
The game takes off quickly and never looks back! Crushing foes, defeating bosses, collecting gold, and saving the damsel in distress. If you are a person who wishes Mario would’ve kicked the crap out of enemies with a sword, shield, and magic then this is the game for you. Overall the game receives a 9 out of ten rating from me.
